NZSE Announces Winner of the NZSE Schools Stockmarket Challenge GameThe New Zealand Stock Exchange (“NZSE”) would like to congratulate Christchurch Girls’ High School on winning the 2002 NZSE Schools Stockmarket Challenge. The full results are as follows: National Winner - Christchurch Girls’ High School, Christchurch The NZSE Stock Market Challenge is a game run by the NZSE to educate young New Zealander’s about investing in the share market. The 2002 NZSE Schools Stockmarket Challenge game attracted 1,115 syndicates (each syndicate consists of up to four participants) from 161 secondary schools around New Zealand. Each syndicate was given an initial “investment” of $50,000 to trade over 23 weeks. During the course of the game, students received informative newsletters from the NZSE, educating both students and teachers about the economy, companies, the market, savings and investing. Using interactive computer trading screens, students were able to monitor and track the effect of each trade on their portfolio throughout the duration of the game. The winning teams in the NZSE Schools Stockmarket Challenge were those teams that invested in profitable stocks and accumulated the largest portfolio value at the end of the 23 weeks. Prize winners were awarded share parcels (in the company of their choice), tradeable on the New Zealand Stock Exchange. In 2002, the NZSE Schools Stockmarket Challenge was relaunched with updated software, developed by the NZSE. The improved technology means that the game is easier to play and ensures the game experience is comparable to how stocks are actually traded on the New Zealand Stock Exchange. Feedback from participants will be incorporated into the next NZSE Schools Stockmarket Challenge to commence in March 2003. ENDS.
