NZX calculates a number of indices to help investors get an overview of the performance of certain sections of the NZSX Market. These indices track the performance of certain groups of listed companies and are an excellent tool, as they allow comparisons to be made between the performance of individual investors' portfolios against particular sections of the market. The NZSX 50 Portfolio index, for example, tracks the performance of the top 50 companies listed on the NZSX Market, and limits the weight of any one share to 5% of the index. This gives a useful picture of the top 50 for ordinary investors, as the index is not dominated by a small number of large companies.
