NZX partners with Technology Queenstown to support business growth

28 November 2025 - NZX today announced it is joining Technology Queenstown (TQ) as a Foundation Member.

The partnership will allow NZX to help support TQ’s goal of diversifying the Queenstown economy and building the Queenstown Lakes District into a billion-dollar tech ecosystem by 2043.

NZX Chief Executive Mark Peterson says NZX is committed to backing industries that are driving growth and innovation in regional New Zealand.

“This is an important opportunity for NZX to support Technology Queenstown from the outset. We are excited to bring insights from our extensive experience in guiding companies through different stages of growth, and it will open clear pathways for capital raising and expansion.

“This initiative will generate economic value for Queenstown and deliver long-term benefits to New Zealand, ” Mr Peterson says.

TQ is a not-for-profit development agency, formed from post-COVID recognition the Queenstown Lakes District region’s reliance on tourism left it economically vulnerable. It is tasked with building a robust technology ecosystem for the district. Its goal is to increase the technology sector’s contribution to local GDP from less than 2% to 15–20% over the next two decades.

TQ Board Chair Roger Sharp recognises the significance of having NZX join the venture.

“We are pleased to have NZX on board as a Foundation Member. Its expertise in helping support and grow New Zealand businesses regionally, nationally and globally will be a valuable asset to our agency. This partnership will support the diversification of the Queenstown region, assisting the development of a resilient and sustainable technology ecosystem with access to capital for growth,” Mr Sharp says.

NZX joins Technology Queenstown’s other foundation members including Accenture, One NZ, Genesis Energy, SBS Bank, University of Otago, Russell McVeagh, Queenstown Resort College and North Ridge Partners.
