ANZ Bank New Zealand Limited (ANZ NZ) today announced that after 13 years as an independent non-executive director, Dame Joan Withers will retire from the Board with effect from 1 July 2026. Dame Joan joined the ANZ NZ Board on 1 July 2013 and has chaired the Human Resources Committee since 1 October 2016. Scott St John, ANZ NZ Chair, said as one of New Zealand’s leading governance experts, Dame Joan has played an important role on the Board. “Dame Joan has provided pivotal input to the Board bringing robust governance, strategic foresight, financial acumen and a high level of integrity to her role as a director. “She has made a significant contribution to both the business sector and the wider governance community, helping to strengthen leadership, lift standards, and support better decision making across the organisations she works with,” Mr St John said. In 2025 Dame Joan was inducted into the New Zealand Business Hall of Fame in recognition of her contributions to business and governance. ANZ NZ also announced that Mr Craig Sims would be joining its Board as an independent non-executive director with effect from 1 April 2026. Mr Sims has 25 years of senior leadership experience across multiple roles with the financial services industry, including leadership of customer facing businesses across retail and business banking in NZ and Australia and leadership roles in technology, operations and transformation. The Reserve Bank of New Zealand has confirmed that they have no objection to Mr Sims’ appointment.
