Auckland Council appoints Matthew Walker as Group CFO

Media release 4 September 2018 Auckland Council appoints Matthew Walker as Group Chief Financial Officer Auckland Council has appointed Matthew Walker as Group Chief Financial Officer. "I'm delighted to announce the appointment of Matthew Walker as Group Chief Financial Officer at Auckland Council," Chief Executive Stephen Town says. "Matthew has been selected from a very strong field of contenders and has done an outstanding job since taking on the Acting Group CFO role in November last year, guiding the council through the Long-Term Plan process with skill and patience." Mr Walker's appointment is effective immediately. "I'm excited about the opportunity to lead councils' finance division," Mr Walker says. "The finance team perform an important stewardship role in managing the finances of council and upholding the obligations we have to citizens and ratepayers of Auckland." Mr Walker has been acting Group CFO at Auckland Council since November 2017, prior to which he headed up Council's Financial Strategy and Planning Department, responsible for the council group's budget and capital investment planning activities. His career spans both private and public sector experience within the investment management, energy and local government sectors in NZ and Australia. Mr Walker's local government experience has included roles at both Hamilton City and Auckland Council.
