Trustpower welcomes today's release of the Electricity Price Review and will continue to work closely with the Government and Electricity Authority in support of change. The review shows that the sector is delivering for New Zealanders, recognises the effort that has been put in to ensure better customer outcomes over recent years and highlights some further opportunity to improve customer outcomes. Trustpower General Manager - Markets, Craig Neustroski, says that it is positive to see that many of the energy hardship changes build on existing work being progressed by the sector. "Trustpower has encouraged mandating the existing voluntary guidelines for medically dependent customers for some time. We support the removal of the low fixed charge regulations which penalise poorer households that use larger amounts of electricity to keep their family warm. We also support changes that will enhance the electricity sector's role in creating a low-carbon future." Neustroski says that there are a handful of initiatives that will need to be looked at in more detail before Trustpower can form a view of the ultimate benefit to consumers. "The Electricity Price Review has been a helpful process. The sector is performing well, and this is a good opportunity to look at what the sector and government can do, so that together we can improve outcomes for New Zealanders."
