3 March 2020 Vital and St John agree to upgrade of ambulance radio network and assurance of service until 2025 Vital Limited (NZX: VTL) today announced that it has entered an agreement with its longstanding customer St John, New Zealand's primary ambulance operator and provider of emergency health services, to upgrade the national ambulance emergency radio communications network and assure the service to St John until 31 March 2025 with provision to agree two further extensions. The St John network comprises of 168 sites across New Zealand enabling reliable communications to over 700 operational vehicles, 209 ambulance stations all co-ordinated through 3 inter-linked communication centres located in Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington. St John provides emergency ambulance services to nearly 90% of New Zealanders attending around 391,000 emergency incidents, and treats and transports over 470,000 people every year. Other users of the network include DHBs, Auckland Airport, aircraft operators undertaking patient transfer, Fire and Emergency NZ and other volunteer response groups in the delivery of health services (Emergency or otherwise). The modernisation of the network will entail moving to a modern IP based core and service edge which will improve availability and service outcomes. Furthermore, the extension of services to 2025 will assist St John in managing its transition to digital services. The parties have used this opportunity to agree a move to a new partnership agreement. This is focused on the provision of outcome-based services and the agreement uplifts the service fees to maintain support for St John. Vital chief executive Andrew Miller looks forward to the next five years partnering with St John to ensure critical emergency communications remain in place for all New Zealanders and said, "We are delighted to have this opportunity to further strengthen the critical communications network we have been providing St John for over two decades and assisting St John in the next phase of their communications strategy".
