AIA Monthly Traffic Update – January 2019

4.0% Auckland Airport experienced total passenger growth of 4.0% in January 2019. International passengers (excl. Transits) were up 4.4% for a new record month, while domestic passengers grew by 4.7% compared to January 2018. International passenger growth (excl. Transits) was predominantly driven by additional capacity on Asia (+17,000 seats), particularly to Indonesia (+18,000 seats) and Taiwan (+8,000 seats). In addition, the new service to Chicago drove capacity increases on North America (+7,000 seats). Chinese visitor arrivals were up 9.0% in January 2019, driven by the earlier timing of Chinese New Year at the beginning of February 2019. Key Points: o Air Canada has announced it will commence a seasonal four-weekly service between Auckland and Vancouver from 12 December 2019.
