AIA Monthly Traffic Update – February 2019

February 2019 Monthly traffic update 2.0% Auckland Airport experienced total passenger growth of 2.0% in February 2019. International passengers (excl. Transits) were flat on the prior year period, while domestic passengers grew by 4.2% compared to February 2018. International passenger growth (excl. Transits) was impacted by the earlier timing of Chinese New Year, with most of the arrivals in January 2019 as opposed to February in 2018. Chinese visitor arrivals were down 29.1% in February 2019. Domestic passenger growth was predominantly driven by additional capacity, particularly on the Auckland-Queenstown route (+12,000 seats). Key Points: o Air New Zealand has announced it will commence three flights per week between Auckland and Seoul from 23 November 2019 and will operate up to five flights per week during the summer peak holiday period from late December to mid-February. o Air New Zealand has announced it will be increasing frequency to up to five flights per week on its Taipei and Chicago routes during the New Zealand summer peak from November 2019.
