AIA Monthly Traffic Update – April 2019

April 2019 Monthly traffic update 1.8% Auckland Airport experienced total passenger growth of 1.8% in April 2019. International passengers (excl. Transits) were up 2.3%, while domestic passengers grew by 2.4% compared to April 2018. Financial year to date to the end of April, International passengers (excl. Transits) were up 3.2% and domestic passengers were up 3.6% versus prior year. International passenger growth (excl. Transits) was positively impacted by the shift in timing of Easter and school holiday period from late March in 2018 to mid-April 2019. This resulted in Australian visitor arrivals for the month being up by 16.7% vs prior year. Transit passengers were down 11.0% compared to April 2018, primarily driven by more passengers choosing to travel on direct services particularly between Australia and the Americas. Domestic passenger growth was predominantly driven by additional capacity, particularly on the Auckland-Queenstown route (+7,000 seats).
