1.7% Auckland Airport experienced total passenger growth of 1.7% in May 2019. International passengers (excl. Transits) were up 0.9%, while domestic passengers grew by 3.3% compared to May 2018. Financial year to date to the end of May, International passengers (excl. Transits) were up 3.1% and domestic passengers were up 3.6% versus prior year. Key Points: o Hong Kong Airlines withdrew Auckland-Hong Kong services effective from 22 May 2019. This contributed to Chinese visitor arrivals for the month being down 13.7% vs prior year. o Transit passengers were down 5.9% compared to May 2018, primarily driven by more passengers choosing to travel on direct services particularly between Australia and the Americas. o Domestic passenger growth was predominantly driven by additional capacity, particularly on the Auckland-Queenstown route (+10,000 seats).
