AIA Monthly Traffic Update – July 2019

July 2019 Monthly traffic update 0.6% Auckland Airport experienced total passenger growth of 0.6% in July 2019. International passengers (excl. Transits) were down 1.2%, while domestic passengers grew by 1.6% compared to July 2018. Key Points: o International passenger growth (excl. Transits) was reduced in July versus last year by Easter and April school holidays falling within the same two-week period in 2019. This resulted in holiday travel demand being pulled into April from July this year, particularly with New Zealand and Australian travellers. o United States visitor arrivals continued strong growth up 10.0% in July 2019 compared to July 2018, primarily driven by new capacity on the Auckland to Chicago route from Air New Zealand and United Airlines operating year-round on the Auckland to San Francisco route. o Hong Kong visitor arrivals were down by 21.8% in July 2019 compared to July 2018, primarily driven by the withdrawal of Hong Kong Airlines in May 2019.
