August 2021 Monthly traffic update and September 2021 preview 68.4%. Auckland Airport total passenger volumes increased by 68.4% in August 2021 versus the prior year. International passengers (excl. transits) were up 61.6%, transit passengers were down 94.3% and domestic passengers were up by 74.5%. Key Points: o International passenger numbers increased in the month on the prior year reflecting additional international capacity despite the cessation of quarantine free travel with Australia on 23 July 2021 and the Cook Islands on 17 August 2021. o Following a community outbreak of the COVID delta variant, New Zealand entered Alert Level 4 on 17 August 2021, restricting all non-essential domestic travel. Prior to the move to Alert Level 4, domestic services for August 2021 were up on the prior year reflecting increased domestic activity over the peak winter season. o Refer Appendix 1 for comparison with pre-COVID August 2018. International passengers (excl. transits) were down 44.4%, transit passengers were down 81.6% and domestic passengers were down by 95.8%.
