Downer EDI Limited (Downer) today announced it had signed an Interim Alliance Agreement to support the rebuilding of critical infrastructure following extensive damage caused by Cyclone Gabrielle across the east coast of New Zealand's North Island. The Interim Alliance participants are Downer, Fulton Hogan, Higgins, Waka Kotahi and KiwiRail. The Agreement covers the mobilisation, planning and engineering phase. The second phase, to be finalised, will involve the delivery of major civil construction activities including rebuilding roads, bridges and rail corridors in the Hawke's Bay and Tairawhiti regions. Downer Group Chief Executive Officer, Peter Tompkins, said Downer was proud to be part of the recovery, which would reconnect communities and improve New Zealand's resilience to future extreme weather events. "Downer is committed to contributing its people, capabilities, experience and equipment to help restore and strengthen critical infrastructure for East Coast communities as quickly as possible," Mr Tompkins said. Downer New Zealand Chief Executive Officer, Murray Robertson, said: "Our New Zealand team is regularly at the forefront of emergency response to natural disasters, and we will be working closely with our alliance partners, local contractors and regional suppliers to deliver this critical rebuild project for the people of Hawke's Bay and Tairawhiti." Authorised for release by Downer's Chief Executive Officer.
