Mercury has appointed Scott Scoullar as a director and he will join the Board on 1 September 2026. Mr Scoullar is an experienced business leader and director with deep finance, accounting, and commercial expertise across the public and private sectors. He is the CEO of retirement village and aged care operator Summerset Group and serves on the board of both the Retirement Villages Association and the New Zealand Aged Care Association. His previous experience has included roles as CFO of Summerset Group, Housing New Zealand Corporation, and Inland Revenue. He has also previously served on the audit committee of The Treasury New Zealand, the risk and assurance committee of New Zealand Customs Service, and as a director of Wellington City Mission. Mercury Chair Scott St John said he was delighted to welcome someone of Mr Scoullar's calibre to the Board. "Scott's broad experience, governance depth, and hands-on understanding of running a major publicly-listed, capital-intensive organisation will be hugely valuable." Mr Scoullar holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration from Victoria University of Wellington, and is a fellow of CPA Australia and a member of ICANZ and INFINZ. The Mercury Board unanimously supported Mr Scoullar's appointment and resolved that he is an independent director for the purposes of the NZX Listing Rules. Under the Rules, Mr Scoullar will be required to retire at Mercury's Annual Shareholder Meeting on 18 September 2026 and stand for election by shareholders.
