BIF - investment in Theianova

Booster NZ is pleased to announce an investment of $200,000 by its Booster Innovation Fund (BIF) in TheiaNova, a seed stage company. Founded on research from the University of Auckland and established in 2022, TheiaNova is developing a new type of medicated eye drop for keratoconus and related eye conditions where the clear front surface of the eye becomes thin, changes shape and can cause permanent vision loss. Current treatment options rely on optical correction or procedures that stop the disease from progressing, but this can be costly, uncomfortable and with limited accessibility and patient acceptability. TheiaNova’s treatment is designed to be used by patients themselves at home and aims to regenerate collagen in the cornea, to strengthen and stabilise the tissue, and prevent further deterioration. Following this transaction (and issue of additional units to fund the purchase), TheiaNova represents 0.76% of BIF’s investment portfolio which currently has exposure to over 35 active companies, and a net asset value of $26.4m. This investment aligns with Booster Innovation Fund’s commitment to supporting innovative New Zealand businesses at the seed of their growth.
