Fletcher Building welcomes Hunua Quarry Fast Track approval
The Expert Panel has today issued its decision under the Fast Track Approvals Act approving the development of Winstone Aggregates' Hunua Quarry. The decision enables the expansion and deepening of the existing quarry, providing access to approximately 225 million tonnes of high-quality greywacke. This materially increases the available and consented resource and supports future quarry operations at Hunua for more than 50 years. The approvals package includes the principal consents and authorisations required for the development of the quarry and related conditions. Fletcher Building Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Reding said: "This decision secures a significant long-term source of aggregate for Auckland. Aggregate is an essential input into the infrastructure, housing and commercial development projects that support New Zealand's growth. Hunua has supplied aggregate to the Auckland region for around a century, and these approvals will help ensure the continued availability of locally sourced materials close to key markets. "The approvals include a comprehensive set of conditions. We are committed to meeting these requirements and will continue to engage constructively with mana whenua, neighbouring landowners and the local community as the project progresses."
